 Hardwood Nature School is an educational organization in Peterborough, Ontario. Our outdoor learning programs combine nature connection, wilderness skills, and outside play to help children build resilience, and positive relationships with each other and the land.

Hardwood / rowan tree Nature Kindergarten (4-5)

EXPLORE, CREATE, PLAY and LEARN! Nature and the child at play are at the centre of this Waldorf-inspired, play- and place-based educational program for four- to five-year-olds. Our Nature Kindergarten is designed to support the development of the whole child (head, heart, and hands), through daily adventures in nature, emergent curriculum, an inquiry-based teaching style, imaginative play, and creative and artistic experiences.

*This is an English language program.

Current Programs

Learn French outside! Where French and nature immersion meet.

Designed to expose participants to the French language through an experiential and hands-on approach, our Les Petits Amis and Les Amis programs are ideal for kids who learn best outdoors. Participants will learn French through play, and authentic experiences in nature. Programs are taught by qualified bilingual Outdoor Educators with years of experience facilitating outdoor programs.

A play-based outdoor learning program for four- to five-year-olds. Your child will be exposed to the French language through songs, stories, organized games, art, and authentic experiences in nature. The seeds of French language learning are sown here!

French and nature immersion come together in this outdoor learning program for six- to eleven-year-olds. Your child will build upon and enrich their French language learning through songs, stories, organized games, art, drama, and authentic experiences in nature.
